To most, Trystane is reserved and good natured, coming off as just a boy, and not the Prince of Dorne. Of course, he is much more than a boy and having been trained in sword and spear fighting by his Uncle and other teachers (including Areo Hotah), is more than ready to prove it. Like most Dornish, he has a passion for poetry and fantasy, often writing about Dorne and it's beautiful sights. Recently, he's been writing for Myrcella nearly every day. As well, he has an apprectiation for different forms of art, be it water fountains and statues, to paintings and elaborate clothes. However, he does not share his people's love for wine, instead enjoying to drink in moderation.
He has inherited his father's keen mind, having a natural affinity for the histories and lore of Westeros, and understanding the politics between different Houses. As he was raised in Dorne and rarely left, he spent a majority of his time studying and training, and at his young age posseses a remarkable discpline. It is because of this his Father trusts him as much as he does, and more recently Doran has begun to allow Trystane to mediate differences and meet with the people of Sunspear, and now, King's Landing.
As intelligent and passionate as he is, noone is without flaws. Trystane can be easy to upset when it comes to his Father, Myrcella, and Oberyn (more now since his passing). He loved his Uncle, and is conflicted about what to feel since he was killed by the Mountain, who admitted to the rape and murder of Elia (his Aunt). Gregor served Tywin, Myrcella's own Grandfather, and the rivalry between their families is well known. Of course, he desires more than anything to leave that in the past, and finds a sturdy partner in making that happen with his betrothed. He is also known to avoid eating some days, instead focusing on his writings and art. This is a lingering affect of his solitude in Dorne.
Trystane is more than pleased to be betrothed to Myrcella, proudly proclaiming that he was "honored to be blessed with so beautiful a Princess, kissed by the Golden Sun". Although he can still find himself nervous around her, since he never had much practice with courting, he is beginning to find a certain confidence while in her presence. He finds in her a companion, a friend, and a lover. For Trystane, there is nothing and noone now so dear to him as Myrcella.
Trystane was born the only son of Doran Martell, and heir to Sunspear. His mother left when he was young, and he doesn't remember her, nor does Doran bring her up. The first time Trystane asked as a boy, Doran quickly made it clear that he was never to ask again. He was playful and mischievous as a boy, often pulling off pranks or trying to scare Areo. Although he didn't hurt anyone, as he got older Doran began to punish him for these childish antics. By the time he was 8, he had already begun to change.
He took to his studies with more fervor, his few playmates and cousins from Oberyn suddenly not being enough company. The truth that he could not leave Sunspear and travel as much as his Uncle depressed him, and his Mother's absence had begun to affect his young and growing mind. The House Maester had on several occassions praised Trystane's intelligence, but did not think he was "spirited" enough. Doran began to sense his son's change more after this, and did his best to guide his son along the right paths.
By the time he was a man by law, he had grown into a competent and patient Prince, impressing even the Lords of Dorne. He did not share his family's complete hatred for the Lannisters, which served him well because not long after Joffrey was crowned following Robert's death, Tyrion (as acting Hand of the King) betrothed Myrcella to the young Prince in order to secure an alliance with Dorne. His unique outlook on Westeros and it's people, along with his playful nature (now again sparked by Myrcella) attraced her to him, and the two quickly fell for each other.
When the War of the Five Kings began to rage, Trystane often counseled his Father and the Advisors, making his Father and Myrcella proud. Dorne, to him, needed no part in the bloodshed. Oberyn often asked him why he was not so angry, angry enough to urge action (no matter against who) to which he replied he was instead sad for Westeros. He did not like the rumors of his betrothed however, and made no attempt to defend Stannis or Renly in front of the court in Sunspear. Robb Stark, to him, was a brave man, but foolish. Joffrey was the true King, although from what he heard of him didn't deserve to be.
After Renly's death, as well as Rob and Joffrey, Trystane began to try and connect more with Myrcella. He found in her a companion on lonely nights, and sad days. Like a sun, he found that she had brightened Dorne for him, and his renewed passion for nature and walks among the gardens came from her. The sadness and destruction North of his home he knew, hurt her too, so he did his best to give to her the same kindness she did to him. Not long after, Tommen asked for his Sister to rejoin him in King's Landing, and Trystane was welcome to join her. Not long after a first kiss in the gardens, the two lovers set sail and are now in King's Landing.
The sun was not as bright in King's Landing. Dorne was always so hot, so close to it, and here it seemed far away. A globe that hung in the sky and slowly fell behind the horizon. Trystane loved it. It was different than Dorne, and was the home of his betrothed. Myrcella belonged here, he could tell. The sun, like her, seemed to shine down on him. It didn't burn, or bury him in it's heat, it just beamed. " I enjoy your home very much, my Princess" he said, looking to his right at Myrcella Baratheon, Princess of Westeros. Having the sun above and her next to him was more than enough to make him happy, and being here in the Red Keep was like a dream come true.
As Prince of Dorne, he was not allowed to travel as freely and openly as Oberyn, his late Uncle. Instead, he saw much of Westeros through his books and maps. Of course he had seen much of Dorne, almost all of it, but that wasnt enough for him. To come so far, and see such beautiful sights as the Great Sept, made Trystane truly feel like a Prince. He smiled and put an arm around Myrcella's waist, drawing her just a bit closer, Slowly and gently, he felt her presence mix with his, and he recalled the gardens of Dorne. It was funny to him sometimes how now, especially here, she reminded him of home now too.
" Truly, it is as beautiful as you told me. Perhaps we shall walk more, among the streets of the city?" he asked, knowing full well she loved to go for walks. He both admired and loved that about her. She was energetic for a Princess, and sometimes the long walks let them talk so deeply, they crossed seas of time in mere moments. He was not afraid with her, and he knew she wasn't with him. " We could even sneak away, just you and me. Diguise ourselves as we once did in Sunspear.". Not to mention, she inspired that spark of mischief he had long ago set aside.
