Arianne knows how to use her beauty to her advantage and doesn't shy away from doing it either. She is ambitious, manipulative and fierce. When she wants something, she gets it, by any means. She's even compared to be more like Oberyn than her father, with her intelligence and sharp wit, alongside her harsh temper and sensuality. Arianne doesn't hide away from her status, and makes sure others know that she is a very powerful and important woman in Dorne - a pedigree, if you will. However, she is not vain for the purpose of being vain, she only wants others to know who she is and get the respect she deserves, no more. However, there's another, very sexual side to Arianne, one that may bring around her downfall: Arianne started her sexual endeavors at a young age, as an act of rebellion against her father, and has enjoyed that side to life very much from then on, taking many lovers from all different statuses and walks of life, and it's very clear that she has no intention of stopping.
Unfortunately, the thing she enjoys very much is her biggest flaw. Arianne has even confessed herself that she has a weakness for handsome bad boys, especially if they're dangerous and forbidden from her. It makes her want them that much more, and what she wants she gets. This may stem from her childhood, when she looked a lot less like the exotic beauty she is now, and more a pudgy child - now that she can expect love and admiration from men, she wants to use it the best she can.
Arianne has long been dissatisfied with her father and his style of rule, thinking it weak and vacillating, which added onto her anger and frustration. To make matters worse, when her father moved to the Water Gardens and Arianne remained in Sunspear, instead of being made the castellan, or given a position of power, she was put in charge of "feasts and frolics", while Oberyn was given the highest place of power at Sunspear's court. While her uncle would visit Doran at the Water Gardens twice every fortnight, Arianne was summoned by her father only twice a year, which further enforced her belief that her father did not want her as his heir.
Arianne was born into a life of luxury as the firstborn of Prince Doran Martell and wife, Lady Mellario. By Dornish laws and customs, this meant she was the heiress to Sunpear and Dorne, as Dorne has a no-gender rule, where the eldest child is the heir, regardless of age, and until the age of seven she lived at the Water Gardens. She was the eldest of three children, her younger siblings being both boys: Quentyn, who was sent to Yronwood, and Trystane. Arianne was never close to them, and was instead more close to Garin (her wet nurse) and her cousin, Tyene Sand, along with a couple of others.
Tyene could have been called Arianne's best friend: they were the same age and thus were close as twin sisters, and just like sisters, they shared everything, from learning how to read and write to even a shared sexual experience with a friend. Sometimes, Arianne's older cousins joined the pair in their adventures, and crossed great distances together, like the time the four of them (Ari, Tyene, Nymeria ad Sarella) crossed the Mander in the Reach to visit Tyene's mother.
Robert's rebellion ended when she was seven years old, and at the age of eight, Arianne became afflicted with redspots, which she found, while utterly harmless for children, was lethal for adults. She never forgot. It's also important to note that Arianne was half in-love with her uncle Oberyn, a possible reason why her personality is so much like his now, and daydreamed about a tall robber knight with black eyes taking her and having his way with her, while Oberyn was showing her and her cousins an abandoned holdfast.
Arianne had always had a very close relationship with her father,Doran Martell, when she was a girl. he was her go-to person whenever she'd hurt herself and loved him like how a girl always loves her father. However, all this was to change, when she was fourteen she came across a half-written letter to Quentyn, who was the second oldest after her, penned in Doran's hand. The letter contained how Quentyn would one day rule Dorne, meaning that Arianna was to be passed over entirely for her younger brother to succeed her. Arianne was devastated and cried over it for days, wanting to prove herself as a dutiful daughter but needing Doran to show that Arianne was valued. This discovery was the start of her rebellion against him, and she began to lash out in little ways. She lost her virginity to a bastard named Daemon Sand and told Doran about it immediately after, but received no reaction, angering her further.
Unfortunately, Arianne had misinterpreted the letter. Doran wanted Quentyn to rule Dorne because he intended for Arianne to one day become Queen of the Seven Kindoms. Unknown to her, she had been betrothed to Viserys Targaryen, many years before when Oberyn travelled to Braavos. In return for him marrying Arianne, Doran would pledge alliance and support Viserys' claim to the throne. Doran had tried to tell her before, but every time something happened that made him rethink, from Arianne's mother sending suicidal threats to how he couldn't be sure that Arianne would keep it a secret and tell Tyene.
When she reached the age of marriage, her father presented her with many suitors, who Arianne quickly refused, but asked to travel to High garden and meet willas Tyrell. Doran refused her, so Arianne and Tyene attempted to go by themselves, but were stopped by Oberyn. She came to the conclusion that her father hated her since he was presenting her with such insulting suitors, the letter an the lack of reaction to anything that she did, but Doran was a very intelligent man and thought about the long-term. To avoid looking suspicious by not wanting her to marry, he presented her with choices that Arianne would forcibly refuse, keeping her free to marry Viserys. Many men had asked to marry her, and Arianne took many lovers over the years.
The air was tinged with the scent of numerous spices, making it crisp and pleasant to the nose. She was a fan of spices, every meal she ate she made sure to have many different varieties, it made her feel connected to Dorne even if she was miles away. Even the wine that touched her lips now, was spiced slightly, but that was just Dornish wine for you. Arianne took a generous sip, before turning to the man that sat next to her, every movement she made fluid and deliberate. She didn't even remember his name, but the rugged beard that grew on his face had her biting her lip. "I hear that life has been very generous to you, sir?" Her words were suiting for a lady, it made her giggle how just earlier she had cursed like a bastard would when she'd found out that she would be forced to take part in this feast, there were much better things to do, or at least more enjoyable. Her black hair feel in ringlets down her bag, making her breasts more prominent now they were not hidden by the sleek black locks, and she arched her back to push them out further, tilting her head and pursing her thick, red lips, pretending to listen to reply. the princess's mind was elsewhere, in a wild, erotic fantasy of the man beside her, where only herself and his own lips existed. Arianne crossed her legs, beginning to feel the affects of her fantasies, and eagerly took another gulp of wine, savoring the crimson liquid as it burned down her throat. Flickering her large dark eyes back to the rugged knight, lowering her glass slowly, she found that his eyes had been firmly placed on her neck, watching as it worked while her drink went down. Good. She had his attention. Arianne particularly enjoyed when they were receptive to her, many would argue that the fun was in the chase, and while she could appreciate that theory, she'd rather get what she wanted as soon as it crossed her mind. With a generous giggle and reaching out to trail her olive hand down his thigh, keeping it discreet under the table, she turned to look for her father, who was sitting at the head of the table. She wanted him to see, watch her make a half-hearted excuse to leave, and 'take this valiant knight for a tour' and know what they were really doing.
