Ser Davos Seaworth is a man of great compassion, understanding, and honesty. His past experiences as a smuggler has taught him the importance of having integrity, but has also forged him into someone who does not trust easily. Though, if you have shown Ser Davos good reason to trust you, he will always be there to give you a hand... and that's saying a lot.
Born in the deepest, darkest, poorest slums of Kings Landing, Ser Davos Seaworth quickly understood that he had to become something greater as to escape his current circumstances. His father, being a crabber, taught his son very quickly how to sail and fish with great success. Davos would spend every second of his free time becoming a more highly skilled sailor, and would at times even risk sneaking out at night (against his fathers wishes) to learn more about navigating the blackwater in complete darkness.
Ser Davos would eventually get involved with pirates who helped introduce him to smuggling (Ser Davos was a poor man afterall, and smuggling seemed to be a crime he was willing to risk). After a few years Davos' black sailed ship would become infamous in cities throughout Westeros, and this fear/admiration would be seen by many... especially Stannis Baratheon, younger brother to the King of the Andals and the First Men, Robert Baratheon. Stannis was a man of honor, and to prove it he had Ser Davos' fingers on one hand chopped off, but this did not lesson the appreciation he had for his skills as a sailor/smuggler/navigator.
During 'Robert's Rebellion', Stannis Baratheon would find himself besieged inside the daunting fortress of Storms End. After many months he found himself low on supplies, so much so, that he could no longer feed his men and had to resort to catching mice for survival. Ser Davos would take it upon himself to sneak outside of the besieged castle and attempt to smuggle supplies back into Storms End to save Stannis and his men. He would be successful. By utilizing his stealth and navigation skills to bring supplies back to the fortress when they needed it the most , Ser Davos had earned the complete trust of House Baratheon; especially Stannis.
Stannis would soon declare himself the King of Westeros when his brother died during a hunting 'accident', and Ser Davos would be named his hand. Stannis' forces would be defeated at the blackwater where most of his army would perish, though Ser Davos would manage to survive and be rescued by his fellow pirates. After reuniting with Stannis and the depleted army that remained with him, they would convince the Iron Bank to loan them an army of thousands of soldiers, and would sail north.
Davos looked up at his torn black sail and smiled briefly, knowing that people would see it and be afraid. It was a funny thing, how word of mouth and storytelling could cause panic in those who'd never seen his ship. The sun had just dipped below the horizon, and the island they had been searching for was just now coming into sight. The Paps was a small island on the northeastern coast of The Fingers, but the locals would never claim to be under Jon Arryns' rule, they did things their own way and they didn't follow laws. The perfect people to steal from.
"Davos" said Dreco, his first mate "remember you promised the men at least twe..."
"Aye twenty crates of furs and meat, and they shall have it. Though I haven't even told you about the good part yet." Davos interrupted, smirking with a secretive grin. Dreco cocked his head to the side with an inquisitive look in his eyes, and then asked "And... what would that be?" Seaworth turned away for a moment and walked over to a chest that was kept on the deck of the ship, when he returned he flipped a gold coin directly into the hand of his first mate.
"I didn't want to get the men too excited, but word has gotten around that there is plenty of this to be had as well. So much, in fact, that I wish we'd have indulged ourselves in a larger ship." His first mate grinned and hit Davos on the shoulder, "You truly are the greatest smuggler I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, Davos."
The coastline was getting nearer, and the rough edges of its stone cliffs could be seen as clear as day. As the sun finished its dive, and darkness had taken over, so had Davos instructed his crew to prepare for their landing. He used to get nervous before a good smuggling, but now it came as easily to him as breathing, and he knew he must contain his confident composure for those men whose first time this was. Davos did have a reputation to maintain afterall...
